mage spells
negate magic - dispel all magic cast upon oneself.
antimagic cloud - summon a cloud that absorbs and negates
magical energies, all spells, and spell casting, and spells affecting
characters would be useless within this cloud. (health,ts ammis, ect..)
shield of thorns - reflect a percentage of dmg recieved. (5-10 %)
teleport superior ... teleport with a destination in mind, and a large chance
of ending up somewhere else. maybe 25 % room, 25 % zone, 50 % other (at max lvl)
leap - jump out of combat in the desired direction, land in a different room
barrier - create a wall only translucent forms can pass through.
dispel enchantment - remove a magical bonus from target equiptment
(this would effect all effects on the item, it could not target one)
gateway - create a two way portal to a random destination,
simple invis - You cannot be seen, but you cannot move.
sense magic - sense the presence of magical beings, even if you cannot see them. (hidden or invis or within darkness)

some neat ideas man, i especially like the barrier one, im sure it would be nice to block up a certain exit from time to time. that being said, how bout some skills fro single classes in general? i believe this has been mentionned before in the previously hosted forums, but for a thief for example, of course most of these skill wouldnt be available until higher levels like 15 and up (as a thief its annoying having to wait between lvls 15, 18, 20, and 25 to learn new skills at those levels):
Circle : can only use during a fight, deals extra damage (maybe in multiple attack depending if u have second attacke etc).
Value: get a half-decent estimation (maybe accurate at higher levels) of an items value in gold; would be a good way for single thieves to estimate the value for auction or even to see if it has any effects on it(made evident by significantly higher value than lets say a random with no effects).
Jab/punch/dirty-hit: another random during battle skill similar to kick but stronger
Shadow: a stronger version of hide, akin to a mage's invis or maybe even improved invis (hopefully).
i could come up with a list im sure of other single class special skill for other classes, but this and Menelaos' post give a general idea i think enough for all you guys to understand. i know that some will consider these extra skills and unbalancing, but i think if they were chosen and implemented correctly and at the right lvls then it could work out to even up a bit lets say a single thief versus a warric. (though come to think about it, i guess that was a decision made by not mulitclassing, but that might be a different debate altogether).

Lets not add a bunch of unbalanced skills/spells for single class chars...if you don't like being single class you can always go see Jack(or Jill).
Most of the stuff listed above aren't necessarily bad ideas but wouldn't work for various reasons of balance. Some of them just seem like you're lobbying to help yourself. I think the idea of these forums is to post constructive ideas for the mud as a whole, not just a wishlist of overpowered spells or skills you'd like to use against everyone else.

Avarice has a point, but i think Menelaos was talking about the post level 30 single class mage spells, and Anandunaiss was talking about more spells for the thief class as is...
I don't think any changes should be made to the thief class...like avarice said, you can always dual class if you aren't happy. But, those were some cool ideas for post-lvl30 mage spells. I especially like simple invis....kinda like hide.

I was responding to the often posted ideas of leveling single classed characters to eff 40. I don't want more spells without the work, I would like to be able to compete with level 50's as a straight mage without a physical class... this is something that has been posted and discussed frequently, and has had support from the player base, so I don't feel as though my ideas are out of line....this is a place for ideas, right... for the mud as a whole, since anyone could build a character to use them..... I posted the mage spells first yes, becasue I am a mage and I can test them if a leveling structure for single classed chars is ever implemented.... Please notice that many of my ideas where extensions of mage spells already in existance, so I do not believe they would unbalance the game, maybe add balance as an aff 50 char wearing 60 dmg....can attack little old me with my 417 hp and 30 little lvls and big injure swing....
I would like to see constructive responses frmo the people who agree that we need a greater single classed leveling system, I have a ton of ideas for other classes too, but I thought I would post mage spells first as per my particular knowledge of the class.
I believe an extension of this idea was to strengthen the class with mana/hp gains for those ten lvls, maybe just off classed gains for those 10 levels, a slightly advanced spell str ect.... and continued experience accumilation, I.E. 40k tnl (for 31)bonuses for those who would like the challenge of leveling higher without a physical class... with pure dedication to magic. Thankyou for the responses nonetheless.... I just want to stimulate more talk of single classed advancement, maybe get some more spell/skill ideas posted?

Quote: "though come to think about it, i guess that was a decision made by not mulitclassing, but that might be a different debate altogether".
i did put that in my statement because i know that all i have to do is see jack or jill and voila, i have more levels/skills/spells. Even tho i said that most of the skill i listed could come before lvl 30 for single character, what i should have said (and thought about more) is more a long the line of what Menelaos was talking abuot ie, earning experience after level 30 for higher effective levels. but that leads back to the whole "i chose single class, and IRL, why should a thief be able to beat up a big strong fighter for example", i guess that debate is tied in with single class spells/skills but should be debated along side as oppose to being completely a part of new singleclass skills.
(sorry if that didnt make much sense, i tried to make it logical, but there might be some break of flow.)
