The ideas around scrying got my brain off on a tangent. How about a Semi-Permanent Portal, a la Wizard Door?
I am suggesting this as a high level Mage spell that is best used in a group as a pre-defined escape route. A solo mage can use it but would feel the strain of using that much power him/herself.
e.g. Going into Jesters, Master's what ever. Need to kill that Dragon? Set up a perma port right outside. Group of Evils tracking and interupting your Goodly missions? Set up permaport. You need Permaport!
Castable - Indoor only and not into a 1hp or Safe Room.
Chance to Fail much like regular portal. Only let's take the safety off. 1HP rooms, No Exit, No Magic, No Portal, No Teleport, Zone Boss all possible landing points.
Ungrouped: Half Mana/Mvs Regen for duration of portal. Portal duration is 5 ticks + 1 Tick per Mage level.
Grouped: 3/4 Mana/Mvs regen for all magic users in group. Portal duration based on caster. (see ungrouped above)
Caster must stay within 1 Room + (1/3 Mage Level) rooms of the portal for it to stay active.
Portal dissappears as soon as the caster goes through. (or does it?)
c permaport 'mark' (note: can only be cast on Room wizmarks)
Exits:
N,S,W
A transdimensional doorway opens here
Exits:
N,S,E,W
Should a room have all directions (SWEDUN), the caster could be directed to cast the spell in a different room.
Fun and games may insue should the choice be made to allow anyone to utilize the portal rather than just the caster and/or the group. Being chased by a dragon? What happens if the dragon follows you?
