Another idea i've seen elsewhere, not sure why we don't have something like it here:

Scry - a spell (mage probably, could be shaman perhaps) that lets you "see" what a mob is wearing. Might require a focus item of some sort to cast (in other places you need a special type of mirror, purchased off a wandering mob for a few 1,000 coins, Astaldo or the banker guys would work), and you can check if the items you're looking for are on the mob in question. Obviously this would help people to check out whats on bigger mobs, it might be zone-restricted so you have to be in the same zone as the mob for it to work.
You would be able to see the mob as if you were looking at it....with a % success rate of seeing the items it may or may not be carrying. Also, the focus item should have a % chance of breaking. Just another way to confirm that an item you seek is on a particular mob in a particular zone.

Sense presence - can check for a mob in a zone. (cleric or mage spell) Syntax would be for example:
(in guild) C sense presence mish
You see an image....Mish Leigh Salvandor will use her contacts to help you... for a price.
(in mg) C sense presence Mish
You sense nothing like that in the area.

Would be very neat for mobmastery or if you're seeking a specific mob to find a bright, etc etc. Would help newer players learn the game and so forth.
There's probably some drawback to it but I think it'd be handy. K go ahead rip this idea to shreds folks :)

I dunno...I read this the other day and didn't think it a great idea, but the more I think about it, the more I like it.

There's some other variations I was thinking about that might be cool too.

1. Mages being able to scry into a room they've wizmarked (to see what tripped that alarm, maybe, or to look ahead before portalling or see if a mob has repopped).

2. Shaman being able to sense a particular presence in a room or zone - similar to what Ava mentioned, but perhaps it could determine the identity of something picked up on soul sense in a room if you sense it by name (e.g. c sense pol..."You sense Pol's presence here"), or something detectable in a zone like Ava suggested.

3. Direction Sense - Cleric spell that lets them determine what direction or even distance a mob lies. E.g....c direction pudding..."A Giant Pudding is far to the north".

ooooo. oooooo. oooooo Mr. Kotter Mr. Kotter!

I like # 1 as well. (mage bias, sue me) C scry 'mark'. You could use different flavors of scrying depending on the mark. Think Remote Viewing.
You gaze into your crystal ball and see:
Mark= Room: you would see Exits, Mobs, PC's and items on the ground. You would not be able to examine Mobs, NPC's or Items but you could see they are there.
Mark = Item: Who has the item and if in a container the container's contents.
Mark = PC/NPC: See through their eyes. Room Description and Exits along with the ability to examine items, PC's(including the marked PC) and NPC's closer.

I would also suggest that something so powerful would come at a high mana cost. Maybe something that would need mana from a party member to sustain past a few ticks. Hello, Pocket Shaman! I'd also suggest a set of <STD> ticks after much like Info2. Benefits of MultiClassing would also be available. Thief/Rangers would be able to use Track and Peek.

I can't really speak to the Shaman as I've never played one past 20. But those ideas sound great. I'm sure a skilled shaman player would have a few more ideas.

I like the idea for Clerics. Again, Never played one past the mud-school but I have dragged a few along in my time. Experienced Clerics, please chime in.

Just to clarify:

Scry would let you look at the mob itself(to see if it has whatever eq u may have located), and would prolly show inventory as well.

Sense presence would just tell u if yer in the right area, wouldn't be a way to further detect somethin in a room (soul sense and attune are good for this anyways). The idea is that you located a bright on a mob u don't recognize, u can walk to various zones (assuming u know where zones begin and end) and sense presence to see if its in that zone.

That being said, I like some of the ideas Pol put up too, particularly a mage checking out his wiz marks. I would recommend if someone looks thru their crystal ball at the room, and you are standing IN that room it should give some kind of message to the room like (You sense someone observing the area)

K discuss on.
