View Full Version : Limiting Safe Rooms?

It might enourage a bit more frantic running, fighting, and scrambling if safe rooms were pared back a bit. Running away to save your skin can be fun! (Actually it's a pretty good rush - try it!)

I therefore humbly put forth the following suggestion:

1. When you log on, you appear in the guild as normal. You have a few minutes to get your bearings (say, max 5?) At which point you are ejected from the guild.

--------------------
A butler appears from the south.
A butler says, 'Grale, you've been here for five minutes, and we have other customers to serve.
A butler says, 'Please leave the Guild now. Do come again!'
A butler escorts you to the portal and pushes you through it.
---------------------

2. Drastically reduce the number of safe rooms out there in the world. Make people create their own semi-safe areas. (As a mage, I can always go someplace obscure and hide in the dark...)

3. Make the safe rooms that do still exist limited to two people at a time. Wouldn't this be fun if you're running away from Avarice, and the safe room you're running to is full?

---------------------
<North>
That room is private right now.

<North>
That room is private right now.

<Panic>
You run around in circles knowing the hammer is about to fall on your miserable existence.

<Cast 'teleport>
You lose concentration.
Avarice arrives from the south.
Avarice's pound *** REMOVES YOUR BOWELS ***
That really HURT!!
Avarice's pound *** KNOCKS YOUR HEAD IN ***
You are DEAD!!
------------------------

As you all know, I'm a prey animal, not a predator (much). But I think this would be FUN. A lot more seat-of-our pants action.

Any other thoughts?

Cheers,

Well, you're always welcome to leave safe whenever you want to have your style of fun.

For me, I prefer the more pastoral activities of dying in strange places to big mobs, randoming till I'm maxed on carry weight and stocking the pit, id'ing and chatting with new players/characters and friends, and making fun of Belsambar on gossip. Limiting safe rooms isn't condusive to any of those worthy activities, I'm afraid. :)

Sometimes I am just logged in via telnet and want to sit in guild casting armor/bless on newbies or healing sanc people who are exping in my following. Pretty much this would leave people like Orpik waiting outside the portal
for people over the time limit. It would be like being fed into a wood chipper!

Orpik's slice *** DEMOLISHES *** you!
Orpik's slice *** DEMOLISHES *** you!
Orpik's slice *** DEMOLISHES *** you!
Orpik's slice MASSACRES you!
The force of Orpik's slice is the only thing keeping you standing right now!
You have been converted to hamburger patties thanks to Orpik!

This would likely backfire.

If you are sitting in a safe room, it's probably because you don't wanna venture out into the world. Yes, I know, you're thinking, "well, duh." If you don't want to leave safe, what is more likely: that you'll go out into the world after the 5 minute time frame and go do things anyway, or just log off?

People aren't going to leave safe until they're ready to. Forcing them to probably won't have the effect you are looking for.

I agree with Tynian.
